Rule #1. Take responsibility
In the net there are no written rules, nor any security authorities that can control users' behavior. Everyone is responsible for his own actions. You have to control yourself and think ahead.
Be serious on the chat, always mean what you write. If you are not serious, the person you chat with may get the wrong opinion of you and it will be difficult to establish efficient communication with a purpose.
Rule #2. Respect net resources
In the net you have a great amount of data at your disposal and you can access them also for free. These files are created by users like you that offer everybody the chance to see their work. You have to respect these products without damaging them.
Remember that offensive, threatening or insulting material can struggle against
valid laws and rules local, national or international.
This can lead to investigation of concerned government.
Rule #3. Safeguard your privacy
Everyone has the right to safeguard his personal data, that is to avoid the chance that information about him/her or details identifying him/her are made public.
Chat users shouldn't enter their personal data while writing profiles.
Personal information, photos, phone numbers can be intercepted by any kind of people: they can be changed or used improperly without you knowing it.
Make sure your data are protected or not made accessible to others!
Never give out your password to anyone on the chat.If someone gets hold of your password, he or she can log in to your account and write things that can be offensive to people and you will get in trouble!
Don't show inappropriate stuff on the web cam.Everything you show through the webcam can be saved and displayed on sites at the internet. You never know who's looking, and may use the material in an offensive way.
Rule #4. Show mutual respect !
During the chat it's important to show respect to other users. Avoid any offensive expression or comment, pay attention to the way you address others. Avoid using any kind of names and nicknames that might bother the other user(s), respect others' opinions, positions, beliefs and ideas as well as you want yours to be respected.
Don't make assumptions about the other person, just because he or she is from a certain country. Think about what you write and ask on the internet. Don’t generalize when it comes to national identity!
Don't harass the other person. Don't make comments about the other person’s appearance, sexual orientation, or origin.Everyone has the right to look the way they want, and if you make comments about a person’s appearance he or she can get hurt or feel uncomfortable. A person’s sexual orientation and origin is personal. You shouldn't ask about that unless you know the person very well.
Don't talk about missing people !
During a chat you shouldn't say anything about missing people, especially comments, opinions, judgments. As in a normal conversation, talking about missing people isn't fair, since they haven't got the possibility to reply.
Rule #5. Establish a communication system!
Chat users should have dialogue orders. In fact to communicate effectively you should establish a system to regulate the discussion. Examples might be: when you want to speak, write "*"; when you have finished talking, write "." or "!"; when you haven't finished writing because you are still thinking of what you want to say, use "...".You may work out your own system or also choose to have a moderator who regulates the system.
Write with small letters. If you use capital letters the person you are chatting with thinks you are angry and shouting and!
Rule #6. Be careful with the language you use !
Use polite language and don’t use curses or racial comments – people can be offended and refuse to communicate with you even if you apologize. It is always better to think before you act!
Be careful when you use words in a foreign language, especially if you don't know their meaning exactly. Avoid using the partners' language inappropriately, above all when you are not sure about the meaning of the words and expressions you are using.
Be careful with jokes. When you don’t have eye contact with the other person, your jokes can be received as offensive. The other person may not understand when you’re joking. But if you want to joke then use smileys :)
Rule #7. Select a topic and stick to it !
It's very important to select the topic of the chat before starting it.When you start a chat, focus on the selected topic and don't let any personal intentions or comments, preferences or individual tastes interfere with the communication.Avoid using too many symbols which have the effect of distracting from the conversation and provoking emotional reactions. The aim of an international chat should be getting to know each other, passing on information, exchanging opinions and points of view.Try not to leave the topic, in order not to create any confusion.
Rule #8. Keep messages short !
When many people meet in a chat with a specific topic they shouldn't post long or complicated messages or they shouldn't leave the topic.Messages should be easy to follow and comprehensible for all chat members. They should not include elements of restrictive understanding between few chat members so as not to cut out anybody from the conversation.Only then the conversation may be effective and without any distractions, slowing down the common work.
Dont spam... !!! Do not spam your message on the chat … Otherwise your user can be banned from the chat.
Rule #9. Be tolerant!
Since in an international chat you often write in a different language from your own, you should remember to be tolerant with any grammar and formal error you see.It is difficult to write correctly when you haven't got much time to think or review what you have just written. Most of the time you are more focused on what you mean to say than on how you say it.Nobody is perfect, especially when writing in a foreign language!
Rule #10. A discussion is an exchange of opinions !
You should carry out a discussion with the whole community of users. It shouldn't be blocked by debates, more or less animated, between two users with the risk of transforming the communication into a series of attack to others' opinions. It should promote an exchange of views among all users, instead.
